Heritage Blindness

July 14, 2024July 27, 2024 mike.birmingham.nz@gmail.com

Summary (tldr)

In this post, I am going to explain a cognitive bias called Heritage Blindness or Heritage Denial. It is defined as follows:

  • Individuals of multiple ethnic backgrounds may identify more strongly with one aspect of their heritage while willfully ignoring the other parts.
  • By cherry-picking the minority group side of their heritage they can adopt a narrative that enables them to become instant victims of perceived societal injustices. This opens up many opportunities they can exploit.
  • They willfully ignore the heritage that grants them privilege whenever it suits their ‘virtue signaling’ narrative.
  • They often don’t have any words or thoughts of appreciation for the side they dislike.
  • Many politicize their heritage. They pretend to be hero’s of minority groups and also teach others to become disenfranchised. Many persecute common taxpayers by demanding and gaslighting.

Examples

  • Family bloodlines and heritage data on the Mum’s or Dad’s side of the family (Parents, Grand Parents, GGP, GGGP) are either willfully ignored or cherry-picked.
    • This is especially true when it comes to acknowledgment of their colonialist roots
    • or any aspect of belonging to any majority group, and/or the benefits received.
  • Heritage deniers are often experts in every other persons heritage or identity (including yours)

Heritage Blindness

Imagine that you are a Zebra then ask yourself which part of the Zebra are you, the black or the white? An absurd notion because you are obviously both

I will attempt to build on the ideas of heritage blindness by using the metaphor of a black and white Zebra.

The Zebra is used to illustrate logic flaws and fallacies in identity groups (including skin colour), but can also be applied to any other domains of thinking. See Cognitive Dissonance

If you want to change the world start with yourself!

Angry Zebra

  • This Zebra acknowledges only one aspect of its identity and family tree. e.g. I only have white stripes not black, or only black stripes and not white.
  • The Zebra is angry often because of perceived injustices perpetrated against one side of their identity.
  • They willfully ignore the great Zebra vs Zebra conflicts of the past
  • They falsely believe they represent all Zebras and become easily triggered when other Zebras don’t support their outdated or traditional worldview. They often make disparaging remarks calling them ‘Plastic Zebras’, or ‘Fake Zebras’ if they disagree.
  • Is most often a small but noisy, privileged, and entitled subgroup that polarises, and create negative stereotypes. Many are demagogues have learned to monetize and also industrialize their minority status especially when it benefits themselves. They are well supported by compliant pandering leftist ideology.

Examples:

  1. Your Dad is an indigenous minority and your Mum comes from England so whenever you rant it’s only for the rights of the minority side. You never acknowledge or utter a word about your English family ties
  2. Your GGGGG Grandparents had injustice perpetrated against them, but now 60-120 years later, you claim you are still experiencing the effects. You are willfully blind to the benefits you and your bloodline have received over that same time period.
  3. You falsely see yourself as a hero of the underclass and are blind to the discontent you create. Every perceived injustice is racialized.
  4. You see your minority group as a largely homogeneous group even though they are not. They are disparate groups often with different agendas and ideologies, that sometimes compete. You claim you are the hero of them all even though the opposite may be true.
  5. You have learned how to Monetize your identity group, especially through Government-backed sponsorship, and are therefore compelled to keep your old racialised narrative alive even though it may be 20-60 years out of date.
  6. You have a general dislike and distrust of any Majority group. You consider your group more deserving than the majority.

  1. Are they self-loathing?
  2. Do they suffer from Learned helplessness?
  3. How do they exploit learned helplessness?
